About the Course
For students with no previous background in metal detecting. By the end of this seven-week course, students will have knowledge to follow the best practices for metal detecting in Jersey. Students will also learn about history, archaeology, numismatics, treasure law, the recording of objects, and the exciting discovery and excavation of Le Catillon II Coin Hoard by amateur detectorists Richard Miles and Reg Mead. Specialists from around the world are returning to Jersey to teach in their areas of expertise over the seven-week period. Two practical sessions will involve field walking, metal detecting, and cleaning, identifying and recording finds. Students will be supplied with all equipment to use during the course. This course is being offered in partnership with The Highlands Foundation, Jersey Heritage, Société Jersiaise, and the Jersey Metal Detecting Society.
